Aiken Senior Life Services (ASLS), originally organized in 1969 as the Aiken Area Council on Aging (AACOA), was officially chartered as a private, charitable non-profit organization in 1971. For over 50 years, the agency has served as the 'Focal Point' for senior services in Aiken County, South Carolina. In 2016, the organization rebranded to its current name to better reflect its comprehensive mission of providing health, wellness, nutrition, and transportation services that empower local seniors to gracefully 'age in place' and maintain their independence. The facility serves as a vital community hub, operating several core programs including a robust nutrition division that partners with Meals on Wheels America to deliver hot, nutritious meals to homebound seniors. In addition to meal delivery, ASLS manages a series of congregate dining sites across the county, providing not only food but also critical social interaction and wellness checks. Their enrichment programming has expanded significantly in recent years to include a wide array of activities such as fitness classes, educational seminars, art workshops, and social clubs, many of which are held at the Anne & Cot Campbell Center. What makes Aiken Senior Life Services unique is its integrated approach to senior care, combining essential survival services like food and medical transportation with lifestyle enrichment. As the primary provider of coordinated public and senior transportation in Aiken County, they operate the 'Best Friend Express' and '5311 Rural Transportation' services, ensuring that even the most isolated residents have access to medical care, shopping, and social engagements. The organization is heavily supported by the United Way of Aiken County and various community grants, allowing many of their services to remain low-cost or free for those in need.
